In sampling course participants, we quickly learned that Medical Errors is not one of your favorite courses. Thus, we’ve opted to bring course requirements (root-cause analyses, medical error reduction and prevention, and patient safety) to you by sharing one little girl’s story, the quest by her family and doctor to reduce medical errors in one of the world’s most renowned hospitals, and the work underway to reduce medical errors as a national healthcare goal. Course Description

 

This medical errors course addresses the 3 areas mandated by Florida statute for 491 Board licensees:

  • Root-cause analyses
  • Medical error reduction and prevention
  • Patient safety in medical/health and mental health environments, and mandatory risk management reporting by non-physician employees in licensed clinical and patient care settings in Florida.

Employing diverse and multiple perspectives (organizational to personal), this course uses multiple videos to illustrate:

  • Root-cause analysis (via a case studies that reduced medical errors)
  • Enhanced communication and checklists to prevent or curtail medical errors.

This course addresses needs of licensees employed in:

  • Direct service delivery systems within licensed health and/or mental health facilities
  • Public or private therapies serving health, mental, and behavioral health clients or patients and their families victimized by medical errors
  • Various therapeutic interventions or development of programs serving or planning to serve health or mental healthcare system providers (including those healthcare professionals committing medical errors).
